The fast, easy-install, easy-remove, tool-less, paint-safe, grille-safe, radiator-safe, Autopilot-safe front license plate mount for the Tesla Model 3.

SnapPlate is the only removable Tesla Model 3 front license plate mount that installs and completely removes in seconds with nothing left behind.

The idea for SnapPlate was born when I got a ticket for not having a front license plate the same weekend I bought a new 3D printer. As a self-proclaimed front-license-plate hater, I wanted something that was easy to install when traveling to areas that enforce front license plate use and easy to remove the rest of the time. None of the options available had every feature I wanted, so I made one…and then all my Tesla friends wanted one too.

SnapPlate attaches and removes in seconds and is:

  • Paint-safe
  • Grille-safe
  • Radiator-safe
  • Autopilot-safe

Each SnapPlate comes with:

  • One fully-assembled front license plate mount, ready for your license plate
  • Four black and four silver torx security screws for the plate
  • One black torx security screw to optionally secure it to the car
  • One torx security screwdriver to keep in the car

SnapPlate is perfect to:

  • Install a temporary plate to support your favorite team on game day
  • Remove your plate for car shows
  • Install to avoid tickets while parked at a meter
  • Remove to clean your car at home or at a car wash
  • Install for toll-by-plate roads and bridges
  • Deter theft with torx security screws on the plate and mount

Easy Installation and Removal in Seconds:

To install SnapPlate:
  1. Push the left side of the front to rotate the latches open
  2. Line it up with the center of the grille
  3. Plug it in
  4. Push the bottom of front to rotate the latches closed (internal magnets keep it closed)
  5. Done
  6. Optionally, if you want additional security, use the included screwdriver to install the black security screw into the hole on the right side
To remove SnapPlate:
  1. Loosen the security screw, if you’re using it
  2. Push the left side of the front to open the latches
  3. Unplug
  4. Nothing left behind

This SnapPlate Model 3 Front License Plate Mount is designed for a standard US license plate with holes at 7″ x 4.75″ (178mm x 121mm).

Once installed, SnapPlate sits away from the paint and is strong enough to resist wind and weather without touching the bumper. Take care during installation to not touch the painted parts of the car.

SnapPlate has four latches that fit perfectly through and behind the grille openings to install, but then rotate to hold. They hold it firmly in place without stressing the plastic grille. It’s also flexible enough to not break the grille if it is accidentally pushed into the bumper.

At less than three inches wide, it barely blocks the grille opening and the area behind it isn’t even open to the radiator so there’s no loss of the airflow.

Autopilot uses a radar behind the front bumper that you don’t want to block, so SnapPlate holds the plate in nearly the same position as the factory plate mount.

*SnapPlate won’t damage paint, block airflow to the radiator, or damage the grille when installed correctly and used under normal circumstances. In the event of an accident this product is not intended to provide protection to prevent vehicle damage and we are not liable for any damages to any vehicles, people, or any objects caused as a result of the use of this product.

Unapologetically Printed

3D printing enables us to create a very strong product with an internal structure that is 90% air. That makes it strong while using less plastic than other processes.

Injection molding is great for making millions of simple things, but it’s very expensive for small quantities of complicated things like this. If not for 3D printing, SnapPlate probably wouldn’t exist or it would cost much more.

One consideration of 3D printing is that the surface finish is different from injection molded parts. Since it makes the parts one layer at a time, it has some distinct features. Here some examples:

Layers – parts are printed one layer at a time

Steps – the layers are visible as steps on slanted surfaces

Strings – fine, easily-removable strings are sometimes left behind

Small Holes – where the printer changes layers

Q: What is your return policy?

A: If you’re not satisfied, you have 30 days to return SnapPlate for a full refund. See our returns and refunds policy for details.

Q: What is the warranty?

A: We’ll give you 180 days to make sure it can hold up to your local weather. See our returns and refunds policy for details.

Q: What are the plate hole dimensions?

A: 7″ x 4.75″ (178mm x 121mm) for a standard US license plate. Let us know at if you need something different.

Q: Can I use a license plate holder or frame with SnapPlate?

A: If the frame is 1/4″ (6mm) or less then the included 10mm screws will work fine. If you need longer, these 16mm or 20mm screws will fit.

Q: Can I get SnapPlate in a color other than black?

A: Maybe. Email us at

Q: Can I get a custom logo?

A: Maybe. Email us at

Q: If SnapPlate is so easy to remove, won’t it be easy to steal?

A: If someone knows enough to steal it, they should know that they’ll be staring at the front Sentry camera while they’re doing it, but if theft is a concern for you, just screw the included security screw into the hole in the side of SnapPlate to lock it in place.

Q: What is SnapPlate made of?

A: PETG plastic (the same stuff as water bottles) and stainless steel fasteners.

Q: Can I take SnapPlate through an automated car wash?

A: A touchless wash should be fine, but brushes will likely push it into the bumper which could scratch the paint. In either case, we recommend you remove it. SnapPlate is fast and easy to remove for situations exactly like this.

Q: Is SnapPlate weather-proof?

A: It is made of plastic with stainless stainless steel fasteners so there’s no concern of rust and the body has integrated drain paths for any water that might enter.

Q: Will SnapPlate fade in the sun?

A: PETG plastic is UV stable, but when it is mounted on the car, there is very little direct sun on it anyway.

Q: Will SnapPlate fit on Model S or X?

A: This one is for Model 3, but we’ll make an S and X version if there’s interest. Let us know at

Q: Will wind push the plate against the bumper? What about speed bumps?

A: We tested SnapPlate at over 80 mph and over sharp speed bumps at 20 mph with no issues. Check out our deflection testing video:

I’ve had my Snap Plate on my Tesla Model 3 for a couple months now. It was working great until another car hit my front plate, and then it broke. At first I was upset, but then I realized it saved my front bumper, which would have been an expensive fix.
